How to Subscribe to the Rapid Recall Exchange
To ensure that access to the Rapid Recall Exchange is limited to authorized users only, the subscription process is designed to streamline authentication and enable subscribers to select and manage their own authorized users.
Who Can Subscribe?
Subscription to the Rapid Recall Exchange is open to any company that may need to notify their trading partner(s) of a product recall or market withdrawal as well as any company that may need to be notified of a product recall or withdrawal in order to take the appropriate action as indicated on the notification.
Why Is It Necessary to be Authenticated?
It is critical that notifications are issued only by individuals granted such authority by their respective companies. To ensure this is the case, we have implemented a strict authentication process.
How Are Subscribers Authenticated?
Because of the unique role of GS1 US as the originator of the U.P.C. barcode, we have established relationships with over 200,000 US-based trading partners. We use these existing relationships to verify that subscribers actually work for the company they subscribe for and play a role in their company’s recall and withdrawal process.
Should your company not have an existing relationship with GS1 US, your affiliation with another trade association may be used to authenticate your status. If you have no affiliation with any trade association, we will work through the authentication process as appropriate.
How Much Does It Cost To Subscribe?
Access to the Rapid Recall Exchange is an annual subscription based on the subscribing company's annual revenue. Click here for the fee schedule.
How Do I Subscribe?
To begin the subscription process, click here.
- At the beginning of the subscription process you will be asked to indicate your trade association affiliation, if any.
- Next, you will be asked to identify your company as a Recall Initiator or Recall Receiver. This is known as your Company Type.
- A Recall Initiator is a company that will be issuing Recall Notifications.
- A Recall Receiver is a company that will receive Recall Notifications issued by a Recall Initiator.
- Enter the annual revenue for your company. Remember, all information is confidential. This information is validated as part of the authorization process.
- After completing Step 1, you will click next and move to Step 2. This is where you will identify your Primary Contact, or also known as the User Administrator. This is an important position, so consider who you identify carefully. The Primary Contact will be the user who assigns access and user roles to other individuals within your company. Please note: User Roles will be different for each Company Type. See "How does the Primary Contact Assign Roles" below for more information.
- Review and confirm all the information you have submitted. Please review this carefully.
- Provide payment information. We accept payment by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Expess), check and wire transfer.
What Happens After I Subscribe? |
After you submit your company's subscription request and accept the End User License Agreement (EULA) on behalf of your company, GS1 US will conduct a comprehensive review of the application. This is intended to ensure that only authorized companies and individuals have access to the Rapid Recall Exchange. (Please note that the company representative submitting the registration request, indicated as the Primary Contact during the registration process, will become the Primary Contact/User Administrator (User Admin) and be responsible for managing user access and roles for that company.)
The review may include phone calls to your company to verify your authenticity. GS1 US will act quickly to authenticate subscribers. GS1 US cannot guarantee the amount of time required to authorize companies and the designated Primary Contact, but the process typically takes a minimum of a week. The authentication process combined with the Primary Contact's responsibility of user access and setup requires that companies subscribe well in advance of needing to initiate or receive a recall.
You will also be asked to verify your company Global Location Number (or GLN). Please see the GS1 US website for more information on this identifier. If you are a member of a GS1 organization outside the US, please contact your local member organization for assistance on identifying the proper GLN for your company.
What Does the Primary Contact/User Administrator Do?
The Primary Contact is also the User Administrator and is responsible for managing all users for their company. This means that they can create, modify, and disable/enable users.
